Building a solid brand following requires quite a few things, but above all else, consistency is key. This can be quite a difficult feat if the brand is, in fact, a person, because fans want to be able to grow with whoever they’re supporting. The relationship between a fan and the artist is a weirdly tethered situation where neither really knows the other, but on some level they think they do and if it’s good enough, they run with it.
Larry Don Cap has something many people in our industry lack - authenticity. His is an effortless cool radiating from a place where self awareness meets self actualization. It’s precisely why he can have a finger in just about every pie at his disposal (at the forefront being music and merchandising) and still maintain a rapidly growing fan base that’s constantly craving more from him; more music, more Insta posts, more appearances, more outfits. A fan base that understands that how he works requires patience, and allows and accepts that.
About two years ago, Don Cap opened the door to his relatively private life and shared Between Two Worlds, a VICE/Fader type documentary which allowed viewers the opportunity to see just who he was and what he stands for. The visuals were accompanied by original music from Don Cap himself and featured hefty cameos from his best friend and frequent collaborator YSLA LANRUOJ. Let me just say that it’s truly aged like fine wine and stands as a great introduction to a pair of young men on a steady but certain rise to fame and power.
