Tapiwa Gachala's Natural Hair Journey

Oct 08, 2018, 10:34 PM

It’s 2018 and we no longer need to conk our hair to have long luxurious tresses that flow in the wind as we buss it down to Rihanna (Thank you Wig and Weave Gods).

For generations the pressure to adhere to Eurocentric beauty standards has caused Black women to compromise their health and happiness in order to assimilate in various forms but finally it seems we’re at a time when Black (Not Kardashian Black, Black Black) is starting to really feel beautiful again - Kinks and all, and many a young woman in the beauty industry are helping to usher those who want to get off the “creamy crack” back to basics, and their roots. Tapiwa Gachala is one of those women.

Tapiwa is a natural hair enthusiast, blogger and LLB graduate currently turning heads in the industry with her luxurious tresses. “It has been a tedious journey, yet so fulfilling. I had to binge off natural hair articles and YouTube videos, but once I started understanding the basics of how to care for my hair, that’s when the fun and my love story with my hair began. It’s also crazy how much I have learnt about myself through this journey and how growing my natural hair has had such an impact with the direction my life has taken and the awesome people I’ve met,” she shared in an interview.

As a current ambassador for Hairitage Botswana - a company that promotes healthy, natural hair and an advertising partner with Nokware Skin Care, it’s clear brands are noticing her vision and running with it.

On her blog Tapiwa shares tips and tales pertaining to the care and management of natural hair, as well as sharing product reviews and DIYs for the new and experienced naturalistas alike.

Her Instagram is popping, so peep that, and keep up with her hair chronicles.
