Yesterday, on what marked a week since HHP's passing, Lerato turned 31 and shared a heartwarming video of herself with Jabba this time last year, on Instagram. She also shared court documents with the Tsambo family seeking to stop HHP's funeral proceedings as well as have them turn over all his possessions and his body, to her.
It's messy, and hitting close to home for a lot of people. Oftentimes, especially in Black families, when a man passes away his partner is left out in the cold by his family and it's a situation we've seen time and time again.
While it's always noble to try and honour the dead and go through the motions of handling their affairs as quietly and respectfully as possible, it looks like that need for decency is often exploited by the man's family and used as a tool to rob his partner of any rights or respect.
Messages of support have been pouring in for Lerato from all corners of the continent and even though it looks like HHP's family is taking her court papers with a grain of salt, she did say she's a fighter determined to do what she thinks is best.
HHP's funeral is supposed to be held this weekend in Mafikeng.
