Botswana is one of the nations that take pride and celebrate culture through music. 

It is a country where artists such as Charma Gal, Zeus and many more artists hail from. They continue blessing the whole world with timeless music. 

Here's a list of Botswana's top musicians that are taking the music industry by storm. 

Charma Gal

Charma Gal was born in 1984 in a village called Lerala, she is 36-year-old. She was named Magadeline Lesolobe.

She is an award-winning songwriter, singer and outstanding performer.

She was married to Kabea Mogwe, but they divorced in 2016 They are blessed with a child.

She is popularly known for her body of work that she released in 2017, an album called Keya Mmokolodi, which means "I am going to Mmokolodi."

Charma Gal has collaborated with various artists such as Jah Prayzah on the song Dalie Wami. Charma Galโ€™s popularity escalated after she was featured by the South African hit deejay, Master Kg on his single "Nsalele le ngwana" in 2018.  Charma Gal released her album  "Lekgamu La Bananyana" in November 2018. The album was released under her record label, Charma Gal Productions.

Charma Gal is a co-founder of Culture Spears, which is a group that was founded in 2005. She left the group to form her own group, called Eke Ntolo, which has been responsible or her work. 

2. Vee Mampeezy

Vee Mampeezy is one of the celebrated artists in the country. He is regarded as one of the essential figures in the music industry with his performances throughout the world.

Vee Mampeezy was born on the 17th of May in 1983. He is 37-years-old. Born Odirile Vee Sento and popularly known by his stage name, Vee Mampeezy, he first set the stage on fire with his release Taku Taku in 2004. Vee Mampeezy made his way to the top with pure kwaito songs.

According to the sales of his copies, he has sold many copies in Botswana and South Africa and he is celebrated for his collaborations with Eskimos, Exodus, and Mingo. Vee Mampeezy is popularly known for his I Love You song and his timeless body of work, Waba A Tsile

He owns a record label called Black Money Makers.

is always the talk of the town with the money moves he continuously makes and the rewards of his hard work are just enough to make anyone envy the musician. 

He revealed his ravishing black matte Porsche and thanked the almighty for the blessings upon blessings. In 2020 he made another addition with a black G-Wagon and he was flaunting it on social media. 

It seems like he has a thing for blacks cars. 

3. Zeus

Zeus was born on the 22nd of July in 1986. He is 33 years old. He was named, Game Bantsi at birth, but he is popularly known by his stage name, Zeus. He started his musical journey in 2005. Zeus released his debut album Freshly Baked, in 2008.

Zeus is popularly known for African Time, his third album. It received a great response after he released it due to the ideas, references, samples, collaborations and influences behind the album. 

The album spoke about Africanism and black consciousness. The opening three tracks of the album 'African Time', 'Ma Afrika' and 'Passport Stamps' and due to those songs, Zeusโ€™s album became Africaโ€™s favourite.

4. Mpho Sebina

Mpho Sebina was born on 18 July, 1989. She is 31-years-old.

She is a well-known singer-songwriter who hails from the small village of Mochudi in Botswana and she is celebrated for her unique soothing vocals.

Mpho grew up in a household that played the sounds of, Sade, UB40, Boom Shaka, Brenda Fassie and Mariah Carey, to name a few, which all influenced her in the journey of music and being an outstanding songwriter. 

During her interview with City Press, Mpho highlighted that she left her day-to-day job in order to follow her dreams, 
"I have an honours degree in international business. I studied for five years in Malaysia. I worked a couple of jobs, but I quit. They were trash jobs like data capturing and client relations for an advertising company. It came to a point where I realised I donโ€™t really care about yallโ€™s logos."
Mpho had her debut Extended Play in 2017, NEO. It became one of the most played albums in the country and she had already created her fan base in South Africa, Botswana and Malaysia. 

According to the interview she had with The Orbit in 2017, she regards her music as autobiographical, 

"My music is autobiographical. The stuff Iโ€™ve written is self-reflection time for me,โ€ she says. As a 28-year-old African woman, my music is about the journey to discovering oneโ€™s self through this world. โ€œI would like to stir up that quest for self, to bring about a healing type of vibe. Itโ€™s a lot about overcoming and focusing on personal stuff. Sometimes we get wrapped in anxiety, myself included. My music is about providing an outlet for listeners to forget."
The talented singer dropped a music video for her song Dumelang on YouTube, the music video premiered on the 23rd October 2020 on YouTube. As expexcted, she didn't disappoint with her smooth and soft voice which many citizens have come to love.
Soon after that she revealed that had something else in the works and the fans were excited to see what they would be getting next from the favourite sonstress.

5. Han-C

Hanceford โ€œHAN-Cโ€ Magapatona was born in 1994. He is 26 years-old. 

Han-C is a self-taught singer/songwriter who first released and joined the music industry with his chart-topping debut hit, Sedi Laaka, which was a defining moment in showcasing his lyrical and vocal prowess.

Han-C had his debut solo album, On my own - it is a 13 track album that contains various music genres showcasing his versatility and agility. 

He is a celebrated musician in Botswana and inspires many upcoming artists as he has worked with the big-name African artists such as Davido, Black Coffee, Micasa, DJ Fresh, Casper Nyovest, AKA, Nasty C, Ringo, Freshly Ground, Ricky Rick, Dr Malinga and Burna Boy

In Botswana, he has worked and shared the stage with VeeMampeezy, Mophato Dance Theatre Charma Gal, Dramaboi, ATI and Amantle Brown to name a few.

6. Samantha Mogwe

Samantha Mogwe is a remarkable soul singer born to a Motswana father and a Zambian mother. Mogwe brings a fusion element of neo-soul and R&B. She got into the mainstream industry in 2013, after she featured Zeus on her debut single.

She was exposed to music and poetry at an early age and from there, she continued working on her craft and finally decided to go professional. 

In 2003, Samantha was the 2nd runner up for My African Dream Junior singing competition. She was the winner of the Gabz Karaoke Idols in 2004 and she was recorded as the youngest contestant.

Samatha has shared the stage with well-known artists such as Zahara, The Soil, Zonke, Joe Thomas, Kenny Latimore, Lira, Micassa, Hugh Masekela, Musiq SoulChild, and many more.

In 2016, she had a collaboration with the American Embassy, Samantha attended an exchange programme that was focused on how to run programmes without focusing on government grants and outside funding this was to educate them on how to run organisations independent on government funds. A vital skill for community-based programmes and ideas of how to run.
