In the letter, Jessica said that it's not always about what one can achieve or what they have, she does not have to earn anyone's love and although sometimes it feels like getting good grades or fitting in can get you this love, this is just a passing phase.
"You are worthy of love because you are kind, smart and brave. You are caring and you always do your best. Please don't let anyone tell you different, believe that you are enough for the things you want because you deserve to be happy. It's hard being 14, you wonder if you're pretty enough and if your crush likes you back and that's pretty normal.
Thato said that she does not have to change herself to be liked by people because she is perfect just the way she is. She just has to give herself time to grow into her body.
"I know you worry a lot about mum and wonder if she will be okay, you don't like the way dad is treating her and you want to help her. That is coming from a good place, you love her. Sometimes you feel helpless and feel like there's no one to talk to. I want you to know that things will work out. Your parents love you very much but their problems are not yours to fix.
"You are not alone, find someone older you're comfortable with to talk to, like your great aunt. People are in your life for a reason. When we go through times, we shouldn't be afraid to reach out, you'll be shocked at how much someone else understands what you're going through"
"When people treat you in a mean way, just know that it has nothing to do with you. sometimes it's because they have their own problems and insecurities and don't know how to properly express them. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. Standing up for yourself does not mean doing what the bully is doing to you. It means first telling that person what they're doing is hurtful, then if they continue to do it, talking to someone who can help and deal with it better.
Thato added that she must not be afraid to move away from people that are terrible to her, the best thing she can do is give them love. "If they reject you, don't let it worry you. You will find people that will love you back in this life. Cherish those people and surround yourself with everything that makes you happy"
