Somizi has started the year with a bang. His cookbook ‘I Am Not A Chef’ is currently the number 1 bestselling book in the Food & Beverage chart in South Africa. He’s beaten celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to the top spot! That’s quite a feat.

The Tweeple have responded with tons of comments. Most have congratulated Somgaga on this incredible feat. One commenter says that she has already cooked a few dishes from the recipe book and loved the results. Many others have commented on how the star is multi-talented and hard working.

On Instagram, Somizi shared that when he released the book, he said he wanted to break records. He had reached out to his fans for help to do that. He was told that cookbooks don’t do well in South Africa. But he pointed out that there are many authors who have succeeded, even if it was at a slow pace.

He then went ahead and named a few authors who inspired him, including Jamie Oliver! He says the reason he admires him is that Jamie himself used to be criticized for lacking the professional credentials of being a pro-level chef. Yet that didn’t stop him from taking the culinary world by storm.

Similarly, Somizi himself is not a pro chef but he went ahead and made this book. Today, it’s ranked as Number 1 in SA.

He goes on to thank his team, including the photographers, kitchen staff, stylists, writers, hair and makeup artists, and everyone else who helped him create this book.

He finally says he is proud that he believed in himself and released the first of many self-published books. He also tantalized us by saying that something big is going to be announced on the 14th of February!

A reflective time - “Happiness is an inside job!”

Somizi took to Instagram to share his thoughts on his success and plans up ahead. In an Instagram live, he talks about how happiness is an inside job. He says that he has personally made his dreams come true by working hard and being consistent. He wishes his listeners find the same happiness that he has. He advises them not to make excuses for themselves and to get out there and pursue their dreams!

At the same time, Somizi’s book and its success has been in the limelight for controversy. His TV show ‘Dinner at Somizi’s’ is in a scandal involving Hastings Moeng’s allegations of theft. Somizi says that he knows nothing about his show containing stolen ideas. We hope this is resolved soon.

Wondering what he will be cooking for us on February 14th? Since Valentine’s Day falls on that day, we’re expecting something themed around romance! But what could it be? We’re excited and can barely wait.
