Award-winning musician, Sasa Klaas, has joined many other Botswanan celebrities in celebrating the country’s Independence Day. The rapper, who advocated for her country of birth, has consistently shared her pride as a citizen and has spoken out about the social injustices that have taken place in recent years.

In an emotional post on Instagram on Wednesday, 30 September 2020, Sasa explained her hopes for her country, and shared what she prays Botswana can achieve in the near future. “My beautiful Botswana. I pray for the peace we once bragged about in you. I pray for the goodness, humility and values our people once shared amongst each other. I pray that the greeting dumelang continues to mean something to us as a sign of togetherness.”

As one of the thousands of people impacted by the coronavirus, Sasa recently confirmed that she had made a full recovery after testing positive with COVID-19. The star, who revealed over a week ago that she had contracted the virus and was in quarantine after experiencing symptoms for a few days before eventually getting tested stated, "I tested positive for COVID 19. I had been experiencing symptoms since last week such as chills, fever and loss of taste and smell. Found out they were doing tests at diagnofirm yesterday so I went."

Thereafter, she tweeted that she's COVID free. Sasa had to delete the first tweet because it disclosed some of her most personal information and eventually she announced, “After 12 days of isolation, the virus has been defeated. My immune system is the girl she thinks she is. Glory be to God.”

After being personally diagnosed with the virus, Sasa included a prayer in her post which directly highlighted the issues Botswana has faced with the pandemic. She stated, “I pray we make it through this pandemic that has struck the whole world and that our economy will strengthen once more. I pray for our leader to lead us into prosperity and that you continue to give him wisdom and resilience to get us through these tough times.”

I pray we make it through this pandemic that has struck the whole world and that our economy will strengthen once more. I pray that our people begin to support each other and expand and integrate industries to help one another create wealth. I pray that our men stop killing and hurting our women. I pray our women are uplifted, empowered and strengthened to raise the next generation to become better. I pray for you and I pray for your people everyday my beautiful Botswana. I have hope that one day my prayers will be answered, because I know that I do not pray alone. Happy Independence Day 🇧🇼🇧🇼🇧🇼🇧🇼
