According to several online sources, Mokgweetsi Masisi’s net worth is estimated at about  $20 million. He has accumulated this impressive net worth from his political career as well as his profitable business ventures.

Masisi’s early life and education


Masisi was born on July 21, 1962, in Mosopa, Botswana and grew up in the capital- Gaborone.

He was born into a prominent political family and his father Edison Masisi (1921-2003) served as a member of parliament of Mosopa between 1965 and 1999. He also served in several ministries as assistant minister and minister including the Ministry of Education, Labour and Social Services, Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

Masisi attended Thornhill Primary School and Maru A Pula School. He then joined the University of Botswana where he graduated with a degree in education with a major in English and History. He also holds a Master's degree in social sciences education from Florida State University.

After earning his bachelor’s degree, Masisi became a teacher. He taught English and History at Mmanaana Secondary School before moving to Botswana University as a curriculum development specialist. He became a UNICEF in Botswana after earning his Master's degree.

He officially launched his political career in 2004 when he unsuccessfully sought a nomination for the Moshupa parliamentary seat through the Botswana Democratic Party.

In 2009, Masisi tried again for the same seat and won. In October 2009, he was appointed as the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration and in 2011 he was appointed as the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration and he was also an acting Minister of Education and Skills Development in April 2014.

During the 2014 general election, Masisi retained his seat, and he was also appointed as the Minister of Education and Skills Development. In November 2014, while still retaining his ministry seat, he was appointed as the Vice President of Botswana by President Ian Khama.

On the first of April, 2018 Masisi was sworn in as the President of Botswana, becoming the fifth president of the country.

During the 2019 general elections, Masisi was re-elected as president after garnering a 52.65% majority of the vote.

Besides making money from his successful political career, President Masisi’s net worth has also been built from the profits he makes from his business investments.

Masisi has greatly invested in agribusiness. His family inherited a farm at Sekoma and operates a commercial livestock production and he also owns and manages a feedlot in Moshupa and farms at Tshele and Morupule. He also practices horticulture and more livestock farming at Matseta near Gaborone.

Besides being an agropreneur, Masisi also has shares in more than ten companies including Choppies and Arcee (PTY) Ltd.
