Botswana-born media personality, DJ Fresh, has joined the social media protest action which sees countless people attempting to shed light on the injustices taking place across Africa. Following reports of brutality on the people of Nigeria from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, DJ Fresh has attempted to show his support for the African country, be reposting visual aids to help others understand the severity of the situation. 

End Special Anti-Robbery Squad (End SARS) or #EndSARS is a decentralized social movement against police brutality in Nigeria. The slogan calls for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial unit of the Nigerian Police Force with a long record of abuses DJ Fresh has continued to spread the message using the hashtag in the majority of his tweets, showing his support for the movement. 

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, 21 October 2020, DJ Fresh shared a video of an individual looking out to the distance, with the Nigeria flag glistening in their eyes. The media personality captioned the video, “WE SEE YOU!!!!”, and was commended by his followers for using his large platform to broadcast the important message. 

DJ Fresh has been known to use his social media platforms as a place to spread knowledge or information of any social injustice that he wishes would change. With 2.2 million followers on Twitter and 549K on Instagram, the 94.7 DJ has acknowledged his responsibility of using his celebrity status for good, and is often seen helping out people and supporting movements. 

Back in September 2020, DJ Fresh did not mince his words over the trending topic of Collins Khosa death allegedly at the hands of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF). The calls for justice for Collins Khosa was intensified due to celebrities like DJ Fresh using their platforms to highlight the injustice, the matter legally speaking has been put to bed following Minister of Correctional Services, Ms. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, made it clear that matter has been laid to rest and will not be open for any further discussions.

As the authority figures aimed to sweep the topic under the rug, DJ Fresh made it clear that he was not done with the subject matter. His input in the Collins Khosa case serves as one example of DJ Fresh’s constant attempt to raise awareness on matters close to heart, and his followers on all platforms make it clear that his efforts do not go unnoticed.
