Many of us adore people we see on TV, such as musicians, actresses, painters, and professional athletes, and even children look up to them as they grow up. Despite this, a few of them make mistakes that find them in legal trouble on occasion. Some of these prominent faces were able to escape the consequences of their actions because of their celebrity status, but others are not so fortunate and receive longer, and more worthy, sentences.

Check out our list of South African celebrities who have been caught red-handed on the wrong side of the law and see if any of your heroes are there.

If we didn't start with Molemo, more famously known as Jub Jub, we would not be doing this list justice. Molemo was arrested back in 2010 when he and one of his friends caused a fatal car accident resulting in the death of four children, and the brain damage of two others. When the incident occurred, the two were allegedly intoxicated and high on drugs and decided to go racing near a school. The rapper was sentenced to ten year behind bars however he was released after serving only four years of his sentence.

Following his release from jail, the rapper reformed himself and became a media personality hosting his own reality show called Uyajola 9/9. It seems like he has now become a household name. However, despite his reinvention, it looks like trouble follows him everywhere he goes. Just recently the rapper was involved in a controversy, which resulted in his suspension from the show.

No one saw it coming when MacDonald Ndou, an actor in the popular South African series Muvhango was arrested for a long list of crimes. The actor was charged with impersonating a police officer, as well as corruption, extortion, and kidnapping. - talk about a long list of crimes! This all happened when he and his friends were set up by a businessman after trying to bribe him of R100,000.

Ndou’s co-conspirators remained in police custody however he was later released as investigations into the case continued. Following the drama, Ndou moved on with his life and even began a family.

This one may really shock you but next on the list is world renowned DJ Black Coffee. In 2015, the artist got himself in trouble with the law when he was detained for speeding, he was driving 80km/h over the speed limit. Black Coffee rationalized his irresponsibility by claiming he was hurrying home to spend Christmas with his family. Thankfully, he was not imprisoned, but he certainly learnt from his mistakes.

Another shocker on the list is international comedian Trevor Noah. Although Trevor is now a loved national treasure, he did not have an easy childhood nor did he have easy set of teenage years. The comedian was arrested when he was a teenager and even spent a week behind bars before he was finally released on bail. What is even crazier is the reason the young Trevor was arrested was because he had been accused of stealing a car when he was caught driving a junk automobile he took from his step father’s workshop.

With their outstanding professions and accomplishments, you'd never guess that some of our favorites have had run-ins with the law and even spent time in prison.
