The legendary thespian and filmmaker Shona Ferguson will be laid to rest in a private service today, attended only by family members due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Shona's passing left everyone reeling and the South African entertainment industry has suffered a tremendous loss. Shona made a significant contribution to the growth of the industry and left a lasting mark on it.
The actor and his wife Connie Ferguson launched Furguson Films in 2011. The company has produced multiple hit series for Mzansi Magic, which includes Rockville, iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Herd, The Queen, and The Imposter. Often Connie and Shona act together in their own productions. For example, Shona played JB in Rockville, and Connie played Mavis Mabaso in Rockville.
Having been married for 20 years, Shona and Connie were going to celebrate their anniversary this year in November. Shona died on 30 July following covid-19 related complications.
Prior to being admitted to the Milpark private hospital, the actor reportedly complained that he was having chest pains and was struggling to breathe.
His passing was confirmed by Conrad Mwanza, who is a representative from the Ferguson Foundation. Speaking to News 24 that on Friday afternoon. "Yes, Mr Ferguson passed away at noon today. And all the family is asking for at the moment is just to mourn in private. But it's very difficult, you can imagine, for Connie and the family," he said.
Connie broke her silence on social media in an emotional post. She said she felt completely off balance without her partner. "I’m struggling to process everything that’s going on! It all just feels like a horrible nightmare that I can’t wake up from! I feel like I’m living in a twilight zone!I keep asking God WHY? Why Lord? Please help me understand! I trust you! I trust you to see me and my family through this! Please give me and my family the strength to carry on, and continue our hero’s legacy! Only YOU can!”
