The man just set SA Fashion Week on fire and still hot on his own trail, brought all the heat to Fashion Without Borders Designers Road Show in Gaborone. He promised drama, glitz and glamour, and we got exactly that. I mean, did you see that SA Fashion Week feather gown show stopper that everybody is still raving about?

World renowned South African fashion designer Gert Johan-Coetzee wrapped up the 3 day event this past weekend and he did so in style, wedding couture to be exact. The Bridal Show was held at the Grand Palm Hotel Glass Marquee, hosted by Andre Loungo Pitse, affectionately known as King B. A full circle moment it must have been for the media personality to share a stage with Gert after sharing another stage with Gert’s forever muse - Bonang Matheba, at the Yarona FM Music Awards only two months prior.

Before the runway show, Gert joined other designers at the wedding exhibition held earlier, mingling amongst each other and posing for a picture or two with the fans.

Revelers at the exhibition were treated to quite the sight, on display was Minnie Dlamini’s wedding gown, the one she wore when she became Mrs Jones at the most talked about celebrity wedding of 2017. It seems everything Gert does is always a timeless classic.

Designer Boikanyo Molale of Kanyo M fashion house described a euphoric encounter when he met the talented Gert, going through as many gowns as possible, you can imagine it must have been like a kid in a candy store.

Gert Johan-Coetzee opened his show with a bang, with only 5 gowns on the runway but enough to make a lifetime of an impression. Also on the runway was that wedding gown from the most talked about TV wedding. The wedding gown that “Gertie” had to go toe to toe with Mma Mokoena to dress Tumi for her big day on the Mzansi Magic hit show The River. One of the dresses on the runway was a gorgeous gown worn by TV presenter Lerato Kganyago from his Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

This was not Gert’s first time in Botswana, he was here three years ago when Fashion Without Borders first came to Botswana, and he seems impressed with the growth, going as far as saying the designers are giving him “a run for his money”. When asked what advice he has for brides to be, Gert had this to say; “…this is the biggest red carpet of your life, this is your moment to shine, and those pictures are there forever.” He also emphasized on the importance of planning for the big day well in advance, and you might want to take a pen and paper when the King of wedding couture speaks.
