Local designer Boikanyo Molale of Kanyo M design house is set to open the main show of the 5th annual Fashion Without Borders Designers Road Show which starts today. The fashion show held annually brings together about 50 models and 15 designers  from all Africa, it aims to celebrate African talent and culture.

Commencing today, the road show kicks off with a fashion exhibition, the main fashion show on Friday and it will close off with a wedding fashion show on Saturday featuring the talented South African designer Gert Johan.

This is the second time the show has made its way to our shores, the first being in 2016 where the opening act attended as a mere guest and Kanyo M was only but an idea, talk about a full circle.

The design house was launched in 2017 at the Masa Hotel Fashion Show where they were an opening act yet again, and it has since taken off. The brand, which creates for both men and women, incorporates a lot of cultural aesthetics as evidenced by their newly uplifted brand mark. Their very selling point is using their unique Tswana culture to set them apart and stand out globally, a brand fit to open a fashion show celebrating embracing Africanness.

It is this proudly African embodiment and representation in his designs that BLM Naturals, a hair care brand that mainly caters for African women, and women of color that they saw a perfect fit to collaborate with Kanyo M out of all the 15 designers.

In the spirit of collaborations, Kanyo M will also be collaborating with local design houses that complement their aesthetic, one such brand is Rowina Accesociries, who'll be complementing the range with sunglasses. A Heritage Legacy, a design house that makes traditional yet cool and hip bags, will also be part of the Kanyo M Resort 2020 range for the night.

On the type of woman they dress, they described a woman who is proud of their African descent, in a world where we are rejecting Western influence and rediscovering ourselves. Kanyo M has dressed the likes of 2016 Miss Botswana 1st Princess Bonnie Kamona and media personality Peelo M who will be hosting all three of the segments of Fashion Without Borders.

Currently tying loose ends on the collection and gearing up for Friday night, the designer expressed that being an opening act is a big responsibility to bear, one has to set the mood for the entire show and still be remembered when it's all said and done. We are sure the name Kanyo M will be echoed long after Fashion Without Borders has left our shores, congratulations to the young designer.
