The passing of veteran SA actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards, has left Mzansi reeling. The iconic actress whose career in acting spanned three decades, starred in numerous local productions including Rockville, Egoli, Generations, and 7De Laan.

Shaleen worked with Mzansis's top producers The Fergusons and Connie took to her Instagram account to pay tribute to the legendary thespian. Having worked with her on their Mzansi Magic drama series Rockville, Connie said she is still coming to terms with the news of her passing and described her sudden departure as a sad loss to them.

The actress said Shaleen's legacy will continue to live on and paid tribute to her for her impressive talent.

"Still struggling to process the news of your passing!😭 What a sad sad loss to us all!πŸ’” Everyone who was blessed to be in your presence experienced not only a mothers love, but the love of that naughty friend you bragged to your other friends about! Oh Shaleen the memories you leave us with! The legacy of your work! You are unforgettable!😍 Rest now beautiful!πŸ™πŸΎ Your work here is done," she captioned a post.

Details surrounding Shaleen's cause of death are still sketchy but it is reported that she died at a Cape Town guest house. According to reports, the actress was working on a show in the Mother City.

Tributes and messages of condolences have been pouring in following her passing and the country's president Cyril Ramaphosa has also mourned her passing.

In a statement, he said  "We have lost a household performer whose distinctive energy, artistic versatility, and humility touched generations of South Africans for more than three decades. β€œOn stage and screen, Shaleen Surtie-Richards held a mirror to our unjust past and gave us hope for our future as a nation. May her soul rest in peace.”
Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa paid tribute to her by saying, "Surtie-Richards invested her heart and soul into every character she portrayed. Her warmth and sense of humor were infectious and her talent won her international recognition,” Mthethwa said.

"We will remember her with great fondness for her iconic roles in hit films such as Fiela se Kind, Mama Jack, Treurgrond, and Vaselinetjie. Most recently, she starred in the KykNet series, Arendsvlei. She turned every role she touched into an audio-visual masterpiece."
