DJ Fresh continues to make great strides in his career despite not being on the airwaves for a couple of months. The DJ has bagged a nod for Coolest Local Radio DJ at the Sunday Times Gen Next Awards.

Taking to his Twitter to celebrate the nomination he shared, "HOW WILD!!!! I have not been on the radio all year, and STILL, the kids of SA know wassup!! The moral of the story?? Don’t just kick ass. BE MEMORABLE!!!"
DJ Fresh has been exposed to a lot of drama in his career and personal life following rape claims levelled against him. The DJ and Euphonik were fired from 97.4 early this year after allegations of rape were made against them by a woman who claimed that they drugged and raped her along with three other women.

Primedia released a statement confirming that it parted ways with the DJs, "Primedia Broadcasting can confirm that, after careful consideration of the events of the last few weeks, the company has decided to release DJ Fresh and Euphonik from their contracts. Their last shows on 947 were aired on 15th January and 10th January 2021 respectively.

This decision does not reflect a view on the veracity of any allegations against either Euphonik or Fresh. Rather it prioritises Primedia Broadcasting’s business imperatives. We believe that this decision is in the best interest of our company and our various stakeholders,”
said Geraint Crwys-Williams, Interim CEO of Primedia Broadcasting.

The rape charges were later dropped by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) due to insufficient evidence. "We are pleased to state that, after considering all the evidence collected while investigating the claim made by Ms. Madikizela against us, the Chief Prosecutor has dismissed the allegation on the basis that the allegations are without merit," they said.

Another woman has also accused Fresh of raping her during her high school days. In a series of tweets, @TheKingsTings exposed Fresh for this serious crime. Additionally, she claimed that she had living proof.

“I hope they come for me. Cause I have the institutional backing (and also living proof to back it up) but I’ve been aware of DJ Fresh as a predator since I was in late high school. I just didn’t have the language to call it rape then," she said.

"I know Fresh follows me. I would like you to sue me. I have a lot of things to say that I can only be protected in saying once you bring the matter to a court of law. But I know like you know that your victims are many. And some of them birthed proof of your abuse.”
